Clematis smilacifolia (Tropical Clematis)

October 18, 2015 Flowering Vines Fragrant Flowers 0

The genus name is from the Ancient Greek meaning ‘A climbing plant’.  Most of the species of this genus are found throughout the temperate regions of the world.  One exception is Clematis smilacifolia.  This Clematis is native to India and grows well in South Florida.  It grows well on a trellis in full sun and it flowers in the fall.  The flowers are very fragrant which is an added attraction to South Florida gardeners.  Richard Lyons’ Nursery has this plant available growing in a 3gal. pot already established on a wooden trellis.
