There are many species and hybrid Heliconias in the nursery trade. The most recognized Heliconia and the most asked for Heliconia by far is Heliconia rostrata. This is also the one most commonly referred to as the Lobster Claw Heliconia. It is one of the only Heliconia’s on the market whose flower is pendant. That is, it hangs down as opposed to being upright. It has small thin leaves which tear easily in the wind, yet the flowers more than make up for any detraction with the leaves. It forms large clumps in filtered light conditions and moist well drained soils.

Richard Lyons Nursery has this Heliconia in stock as well as several other varieties.
